A 17-year-old boy described himself as a “dickhead” after he sped at 130km/h in Sydney’s south before wiping out and smashing into a concrete barrier.

The P-plate driver from Cronulla was put on probation for 18 months after he was found guilty of dangerous driving on July 15.

Police observed the boy following three other cars at an estimated speed of 130km/h in the signposted 80km/h zone on Captain Cook Bridge between Taren Point and Sans Souci.

“At the end of the bridge the accused has approached a sweeping left hand turn at about 130km/h and applied the brakes, causing his vehicle to lose control and make a 180 degree turn before colliding the rear into the concrete barrier in the centre of the bridge,” the police facts read.

“The accused was visibly shaken by the collision and immediately stated he was a dickhead.”

The boy told police he had met three other drivers at a service station who asked if he wanted to follow them to the city at 10.40pm that night.

When traffic cleared on the bridge after the intersection of Taren Point Rd and Holt St, the cars “increased speed dramatically”.

“The accused denied that he was racing them and claimed he was only following them,” the police facts read.

The boy, who has since turned 18, will not be eligible to hold a driver’s licence until January 2020.
