Coles, Woolworths crack down on toilet paper panic buyers

Wipe-out! Supermarkets in Sydney’s south remain utterly cleaned out of toilet paper as one major supermarket chain cracks down even harder on panic buying. Not a single supermarket in Engadine has any loo roll. Can’t think why though.

The toilet paper crisis continues in Sydney’s south with supermarkets at most major centres completely wiped out of all stock.

The St George Shire Standard confirmed there was no toilet paper of any kind at major supermarkets in Engadine, Menai, Kirrawee, Kareela or Miranda on Monday morning as shoppers continue to panic-buy up big quantities.

Toilet paper subscription service Who Gives A Crap was also nationally sold out of all stock for new customers on Monday morning.

Panic buyers also sprang for Nurofen at Coles Kareela, tissues at Woolworths Menai and pasta – except the gluten-free chickpea variety – at Woolworths Miranda.

Printed signs hanging off empty shelves at each supermarket urged customers to buy sensibly as Woolworths and Coles continue to limit shoppers to four packs and one pack per purchase respectively.

Coles also took out full-page newspaper ads to publicise the enforced one-pack purchase limit at their stores.

“At Coles, we have a responsibility to ensure every Australian can access their fair share of the things they need every day. And right now, not every Australian can; including the elderly and most vulnerable,” Coles Group CEO Steven Cain wrote.

“We can’t allow that to continue.”

The crisis hit shocking new heights on the weekend as an alleged brawl over toilet paper caught on camera resulted in criminal charges for two Sydney women.

A Bankstown mother and daughter aged 60 and 23 will face Bankstown Local Court on April 28 charged with affray after they allegedly had a physical fight with a 49-year-old woman at Woolworths Chullora in Sydney’s southwest.

Just after 7am police attended the supermarket following reports of an altercation over toilet paper.

Viral social media footage shows the women screaming before staff intervene in the madness.

The 49-year-old woman was not injured in the incident.
