A Sydney tobacconist was allegedly selling flick knives, slingshots, party bongs, testosterone and Viagra in plain sight at his shop in a major suburban shopping centre.

Undercover police arrested Jin Long Wang, 58, outside Cignall at Westfield Miranda in front of stunned shoppers at 1pm on Wednesday.

Officers gathered several brown paper bags of evidence during a three-hour raid, including two party bongs - water pipes that can be smoked by several people at once - red and orange pills in blister packets and vials of liquid from a black cardboard box printed with green marijuana leaves.

Wang has now been charged with possessing two brass pirate slingshots, possessing 130g of testosterone, displaying and selling a water pipe, selling an ice pipe, possessing eight flick knives without a permit, possessing 70 Cialis tablets and 80 Viagra tablets for erectile dysfunction, and selling four slingshots since January.

On the audiovisual link to his holding cell at Surry Hills police station, Wang said “I promise to never do again” as Magistrate Glenn Zdenkowski granted him bail at Parramatta Bail Court on Thursday.

Legal Aid solicitor Shaun Titmarsh told Mr Zdenkowski the Cabramatta man would likely plead guilty once he had a Mandarin interpreter at his next court date.

“He has made some full and frank admissions, particularly to (selling the slingshots),” Mr Titmarsh told the court.

“It’s not a foregone conclusion that he will receive a full time sentence.”

Wang will next face Sutherland Local Court on August 14.

Wang spent the night behind bars before his court appearance but appeared cheerful despite his recent ordeal.

The tobacconist will have to reside at his Cabramatta home, forfeit his passport, stay away from international departure points and offer $2000 surety as conditions of his bail.
