A young man was caught out with a bag of cocaine after he attracted police attention for publicly urinating in a Cronulla laneway.
Benjamin Moore, 22, pleaded guilty to cocaine possession after police found him relieving himself in Curranulla Ln near St Aloysius’ Catholic Church near midnight on January 18.
“Police observed the accused standing in the bushes beside the footpath and at the time police were of the opinion the accused was urinating,” agreed police facts stated.
“The accused could be heard saying ‘that’s not good, that’s not good’.”
Police observed Moore appeared to have an “unusually dry mouth” and “large dilated pupils” before they inquired about drug use.
“The accused paused and said ‘I can’t lie, yes, I have a bag of cocaine on me’,” agreed police facts stated.
“He stated he had bought it at Gymea Hotel earlier in the night for $250.”
Magistrate Peter Bugden at Sutherland Local Court sentenced Moore to a two-year conditional release order without conviction to be of good behaviour.
“It’s a small quantity of drugs and you’ve got no record,” Mr Bugden said.
“If you commit any further offence you will get a conviction in this matter.”
Mr Bugden reminded Moore a drug conviction could affect his employment and travel prospects in the future.
