THE State Government has invited two developers to submit proposals for thousands of social, affordable and private homes in Sydney’s south.
The developers responded to a tender to transform a government-owned site in Arncliffe into a mixed community of modern homes, retail shopping, community facilities and green space.
St George Community Housing with Investec Australia and Bouygues Construction will play for the Arncliffe site against Billbergia and Evolve Housing.
Social housing minister Pru Goward said there had been strong interest in the site during the tender process.
“This is a terrific opportunity for the Government to work in partnership with the not-for-profit and private sectors and to deliver these dynamic new projects that are close to schools, shops and transport,” Ms Goward said.
The contracts will be awarded in 2019.
The $22 billion Communities Plus program is expected to deliver 23,500 social and
affordable housing dwellings and 40,000 private homes over 10 years.
A similar redevelopment at Riverwood’s Washington Park is partially complete and delivered social housing mixed with private housing.
The remaining 30 ha of the Riverwood renewal will be planned as a state significant precinct.
