Police have urged the community not to take the law into their own hands after flyers warning neighbours about a former swim coach charged with 57 counts of child sex abuse hit letterboxes near his Sydney home.

A homemade flyer depicting Paul Frost’s face and home is circulating around Sylvania after the 43-year-old primary school teacher was charged with sexually abusing 11 boys he coached at the Doug Frost Swim School in Padstow in the late 90s and early 2000s.

He was granted strict conditional bail with conditions akin to house arrest, confining him primarily to his Sylvania home.

“I do not feel comfortable knowing an accused sexual predator lives near my family and my children,” the flyer reads.

“I understand the concept of innocent until proven guilty but in this case I firmly believe that the neighbourhood children’s safety should be the priority.”

A NSW Police spokeswoman said police were aware of the flyers and warned community members not to interfere in the court process.

“We would encourage the community not to attempt to take the law into their own hands, as this can jeopardise ongoing court proceedings,” the spokeswoman said.

“Police would also like to reassure the community their safety is not at risk.”

Paul Frost appeared briefly at Bankstown Local Court where he was granted a minor bail variation that allows him to travel within 5km of Sydney International Airport as long as he does not attempt to enter it.

He was silent as he left the courthouse and hopped into a waiting car.

The most harrowing accusations against the son of Ian Thorpe’s former swim coach Doug Frost include that he committed oral rape upon multiple boys he coached in a swim squad at his father’s pool between 1997 and 2009.

He faces 57 charges against the boys aged eight to 16 which include allegedly swimming naked with them, plying them with alcohol while showing them pornography, forcing them to undress so he could abuse them and touching their genitalia under their speedos.

He lost his contract employment as a full-time teacher at Malabar Public School and an undergraduate education lecturer at the University of New South Wales when the charges became public.

His bail conditions include daily reporting to police, and he is not permitted to leave the house without one of a small group of nominated people which includes his wife.

He is also not permitted to be in the company of any children without supervision except for his own.
