Eight three and four bedroom townhouses worth $4.6 million will go up in place of two old single-storey homes on a quiet Sutherland Shire street.
The application for demolition and construction of eight townhouses at 53-55 Telopea Ave in Caringbah South was approved by Sutherland Shire Council on Thursday.
Half of the townhouses will be two storeys above ground level, while the other half at the site’s rear will be single-storey above ground.
Four townhouses will have three bedrooms, two will have four bedrooms and two will have three bedrooms with a flexible fourth bedroom or study.
“Each dwelling is provided with two parking spaces in a basement level garage, and two visitor parking spaces are also provided,” the applicant wrote.
“Each dwelling is also provided with private open space at the ground floor level comprising a terrace and deep soil landscaped areas, and Units 1 and 8 are also provided with a street
facing balcony.”
The development is 250m away from Caringbah Public School and nearby shops on Port Hacking Rd including two cafes, a pharmacy, a dentist, a petrol station and Port Hacking Seafood fish and chips.
The applicant said the development is designed to be in keeping with the street’s existing and emerging character.
“The immediate surrounding area comprises of low density residential dwellings, including one and two-storey houses, dual occupancies and multi-dwelling housing,” the applicant wrote.
“Some of the dwellings have been recently renovated while others are still essentially in original condition.”
