Tristian Allen: drug dealing charges land Bulli teen in court

An Audi-driving teen has landed himself in court after police witnessed a suspicious exchange involving a guest on a party bus in a Sydney late night district.

Australia's Growing Drug Crisis

A teen cryptocurrency trader and Crossfit enthusiast has been lashed by a magistrate after police caught him supplying ecstasy to a party bus full of customers.

Officers in an unmarked car witnessed the moment Tristian Allen, then 19, pulled up in his Audi and made a suspicious transaction with a party bus guest near Cronulla pub Northies on December 19 last year.

When officers pulled Allen over, a search revealed he had 13.94g of MDMA in the glove box, 5.17g of ketamine, 1.43g of cocaine in his wallet, two Valiums and $95 cash.

“The accused made admissions to having the large quantity of MDMA for the purpose of supply, but to persons known to him,” police facts tendered to the court state.

“The accused made admissions to using all of the types of prohibited drugs he was located with, however … there was a significant amount in his possession and police believe these were all for the purpose of supply.”

Allen also told police he had obtained cash and electronic transfers from his friends to buy the drugs and those transactions would show up in his bank records.

At Sutherland Local Court, Magistrate Joy Boulos described Allen’s behaviour as a complete “fall from grace”.

“You took a risk and it was so contradictory to the healthy lifestyle that you lead,” Ms Boulos said.

“You don’t know what’s in these drugs – a number of people who take these drugs die, and that’s the risk you’re taking, contributing the death of someone or going to jail today.”

The Bulli teen spent one night behind bars charged with two counts of prohibited drug supply, two counts of drug possession and one count of dealing with crime proceeds before he was granted bail at Parramatta Bail Court on December 20.

Allen pleaded guilty to all five offences and narrowly avoided full time jail after Ms Boulos sentenced him to a 15-month intensive corrections order for the MDMA supply.

He was also sentenced to 400 hours’ community service, a 12-month community corrections order for the ketamine and cash, a $500 fine for the valium and a $400 fine for the cocaine.

One week later on May 27, Ms Boulos reduced the community service order to 300 hours after Allen’s lawyer identified that was the jurisdictional limit for the local court.

“I was seriously thinking of sending you to jail,” Ms Boulos told Allen.

“You’re a 20-year-old clean skin, no priors – but it’s simply not on.”

The court heard Allen is a cryptocurrency trader and CrossFit enthusiast who will compete in the global CrossFit Games Semi-Finals in Brisbane in two weeks.

“You don’t have a problem looking at the ingredients in the food that you eat,” Ms Boulos said.

“You’re a fitness freak, but you’re out there suppling drugs and you don’t know what’s in them – rat poison?”

In an interview after his arrest Allen told police he was a digital marketing manager and cryptocurrency trader who earned more than $100,000 last year in cryptocurrency before losing about $75,000 of it in late 2020.
