A serving police officer – attached to a specialist command police – has denied grabbing a woman’s breasts 10 years ago in the city.

Ryan Paul Anning, of Sutherland, did not appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday where his lawyer entered a plea of not guilty to assault with act of indecency.

Court documents state the 49-year-old allegedly “grabbed both breasts” in October 2013 at Darling Harbour.

An investigation was launched in December 2021 after reports a serving police officer had allegedly indecently assaulted a woman in October 2013.

After extensive inquiries, Anning was issued a court attendance notice in May on a charge of for assault with act of indecency, which he has now pleaded not guilty to.

In a statement at the time, NSW Police said 49-year-old’s employment status was under review.

On Wednesday, Anning’s lawyer Mr Madden asked for a timeline on the service of a brief of evidence, informing the court the matter was being prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The police prosecutor asked registrar Tim Henderson for an extension to serve the brief of evidence, which was accepted and set for August 9.

The matter will return to the same court on August 24.
