A serving police officer has appeared in court for the first time after being charged with driving with a suspended licence.
Benjamin David, 41, attended Sutherland Local Court for the first mention of his case on Tuesday.
Police allege a St George Highway Patrol officer stopped a car on South John St, Bardwell Valley about 8.30am on May 16.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said an officer conducted checks which allegedly revealed David, who is a senior constable attached to a specialist command and was off-duty at the time, had a suspended drivers licence due to an exceeded demerit point threshold.
David, who lives in Turrella, was issued a court attendance notice for driving a motor vehicle while licence suspended.
In court, David’s lawyer Liam McKibbin briefly mentioned his client’s case where he sought an adjournment.
Mr McKibbin indicated a plea of guilty would be entered on the next occasion and the matter would likely proceed to sentence.
Mr McKibbin said the adjournment period would also allow David to complete the traffic offenders program.
The case was adjourned to July 26.
