The son of a former prominent family court lawyer allegedly “pegged” a glass at his partner in a domestic violence incident, a court has heard.

Liam Michael Barry Raymond Magee, 22, appeared in Sutherland Local Court on Monday where he successfully applied for bail after he was charged with reckless wounding and common assault.

The court heard Magee, who works as a scaffolder, allegedly threw glass at his partner and injured her arm at their Jannali home shortly before 11pm on Sunday.

Magee’s lawyer John Sutton told the court his client used a cochlear implant because he was deaf and on the night of the incident Magee and girlfriend were arguing about infidelity from two years earlier.

Mr Sutton said Magee took his implant out and was playing games on his phone on the couch when he saw the woman come out from another room.

Mr Sutton said his client could see her mouth moving and “shouting”.

Police allege Magee “pegged” a baby monitor at the woman, who then threw a pint glass which broke before Magee picked it up and threw it back at her.

The woman allegedly sustained a cut to her arm and a head injury.

Mr Sutton told the court Magee was reckless but did not intend the glass to hit the woman and had made admissions to police.

Magistrate Philip Stewart agreed to grant Magee bail and ordered him to live with his parents at their Loftus home.

Magee’s father Peter Magee established a family law division and became a managing partner at Armstrong Legal.

Magee will be able to continue his work as a scaffolder, must comply with a apprehended domestic violence order and cannot go to his girlfriend’s home.

The case was adjourned to February 7.
