A new inclusive children’s playground has opened at the $1bn masterplanned Woolooware Bay community, signalling the finishing line for a project more than a decade in the making.
It comes after local families gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the playground at the Bay Central shopping centre in the Sutherland Shire on July 25.
Named Livvi’s Place, in partnership with the Touched by Olivia Foundation, the playground has been designed so children, parents and grandparents of all abilities can play together.
The Australian developer behind the billion-dollar waterfront complex, Novm and Capital Corporation, said the playground will help foster a “true sense of local community”.
“The opening of this extraordinary playground marks another significant milestone for Woolooware Bay and Cronulla communities, reflecting their unwavering commitment to fostering inclusivity, community spirit, and the wellbeing of their children,” Novm CEO Adrian Liaw said.
“It is a testament to the power of collaboration, local expertise, and the shared vision of creating a space where every child can thrive.”
The playground features a giant shark structure to honour the local Cronulla Sharks rugby league club, as well as a nature walk, magical fairy garden, and musical instruments.
Cronulla local and habit8 landscape architect David Vargo designed the playground with the help of the Touched by Olivia Foundation, a charity working towards the creation of inclusive community spaces.
Touched by Olivia founder Justine Perkins said she was proud to see another park added to the national Livvi Place network.
“Our mission is to spread inclusion and bring joy to communities so that every child can experience the gift of play,” Ms Perkins said.
“It’s been a joy to work with everyone involved with the delivery of Woolooware Bay’s new park.”
“Success is about integrating inclusion into our daily practices and habits. This commitment starts with the thoughtful design of our public spaces so that children and families feel welcome in everyday activities.”
Billed as one of the final pieces of the project, the opening of the playground marks an imminent completion date for the Woolooware Bay development.
It follows the official opening of Bay Central in February 2024, and the settlement of the fourth and final residential stage of the development.
Upon completion, Woolooware Bay will include 898 apartments, 23 commercial suites, and 10,000 sqm of waterfront parklands for more than 2500 residents.
Bay Central and Woolooware Bay Town Centre will be at the heart of the development – located just 35 minutes from the Sydney CBD.
