A man accused of trespassing on the grounds of an Engadine high school has been charged.

Police were called to St John’s Bosco College following reports a man entered through the gate.

Sutherland police officers attended and removed 50-year-old Peter Apostolou from the high school and he was arrested later that day.

He was taken to Sutherland police station and charged with entering enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse and contravene prohibition/restriction in apprehended violence order.

A Sydney Catholic Schools spokeswoman said staff followed the school’s procedure and quickly responded to remove the man.

“The incident was contained quickly and no students or staff were harmed, and the school day commenced as normal,” she said.

“The safety and security of our students, staff, site and community is our highest priority at the school, and while the incident demonstrated that our security processes are effective we have taken the opportunity to further review security at the school.

“This includes thoroughly checking our secure access points and ensuring all staff are aware of all school security procedures so they can likewise act quickly in the unlikely event of trespass in the future.”

Apostolou was granted bail in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.

As part of his bail conditions, he must live at his St Peters home; cannot go within 1km of Bombell Ave, Engadine; he must abide by an AVO including not contacting a person in need of protection and he cannot take drugs unless those drugs are prescribed by a doctor.

The case was adjourned to June 7 at Sutherland Local Court.
