A “family friendly” pub with a restaurant, three bar areas and a gaming room has been pitched for a major new retail and commercial development in Sydney’s south.
Developers and stakeholders expect One Hurstville Plaza will generate hundreds of jobs and jump-start local business when the 14-storey building at 288 Forest Rd is complete.
The latest proposal for the $60 million office tower in the heart of Hurstville is a pub worth $3.2 million called The Hurstville Hotel.
Georges River Council is now considering the proposal for a pub and associated restaurant on the building’s first floor.
“(The pub will include) indoor dining, including semi-private dining, a main cocktail bar and a smaller gaming room bar,” the applicants wrote.
“(It will also include) outdoor dining including private garden dining to the east, an integrated retractable shade structure, a gaming room accommodating 30 gaming machines, an outdoor lounge and amenities.”
The first floor tenancies at One Hurstville Plaza are currently approved for retail use and the applicants will seek the a full hotel licence which allows gaming through the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority.
“The proposed design aims to achieve an up-market contemporary bar and restaurant, with a focus on creating a family friendly environment, and encouraging a safe and inviting precinct,” the applicants wrote.
“The proposal is expected to have a positive impact in the community by increasing the diversity, provision and quality of night time uses within the city centre, in line with strategic aspirations for Hurstville.”
The proposed hours for the internal areas are 7am to 4am from Monday to Sunday, with hours for external areas facing Hurstville Plaza including the gaming lounge limited to 7am-12am.
“Following approval of the of the above scope of works and hours of operation, the applicable liquor licence and gaming machine applications will be obtained under the Liquor Act 2007 from ILGA,” the applicants wrote.
The proposal is expected to generate a number of new hospitality jobs.
One Hurstville Plaza has been described as an “A-grade landmark opportunity” in Hurstville, which developers say is transforming into “one of Sydney’s most inspired cultural and corporate hubs”.
The tower is situated directly between Westfield Hurstville, Hurstville Central and the Hurstville train station.
