However, a new class of social media stars are attaining fame, fortune and followers by letting people around the world into their inner lives.

From vlogs and beauty tutorials to gaming guides and tech reviews, these are the top YouTubers in their fields across NSW.

LAZARBEAM – 18.8M SUBSCRIBERS

What’s the content: LazarBeam – also known as Lannan Eacott from the Central Coast – started by posting slow motion videos of construction demolition. He is now a professional gamer known primarily for his Fortnite prowess, video game commentaries, comedy skits and memes.

MIGHTYCARMODS – 3.53M SUBSCRIBERS

What’s the content: Mighty Car Mods was created by hosts Balir Joscelyne and Martin Mulholland. Since 2008 the pair have been buying cars, modifying them and testing the results. The channel celebrates DIY car modifications and car enthusiast culture.

SUPERWOG – 1.75M SUBSCRIBERS

What’s the content: Sydney brothers and former Trinity Grammar School students Theodore and Nathan Saidden created Superwog – a character played by Theo – for a series of skits posted to YouTube. Superwog has now been turned into an ABC Comedy original series produced by Princess Picture and Screen Australia.

I DID A THING (ALEX APOLLONOV) – 1.71M SUBSCRIBERS

What’s the content: Australian YouTuber and former Sydney University student Alex Apollonov is better known as I Did A Thing – the YouTube channel where he posts videos of himself creating homemade devices to comedic effect. Recently he collaborated with Aunty Donna to create a Melbourne monolith styled after the viral Utah monolith and a skit with The Chaser in which he attempted to enter The Star casino while faking COVID symptoms.

What’s the content: YouTube’s self-styled “holistic health princess” Sarah’s Day – also known as Sarah Tilse – has racked up more than 1.5 million adoring followers with vlogs on fitness, cooking, home renovations and parenting.

GEORGIA PRODUCTIONS – 997K SUBSCRIBERS

What’s the content: Georgia Productions is a comedian and vlogger who uploads weekly videos about her life along with comedy skits and impressions.

ASH MAGIC – 726K SUBSCRIBERS

What’s the content: Ash Hodgkinson, known as Ash Magic, is a magician, actor and entertainer who creates viral videos about magic and everyday life. He started as a busker and is now one of Australia’s leading TikTok creators.

SAMMY ROBINSON – 716K SUBSCRIBERS

What’s the content: Sammy Robinson from Sydney’s north shore started out as a make-up influencer, but has since expanded her video content to include vlogs of everyday life and travel. She also parlayed her success into her own fashion and jewellery line called One Mile.

What’s the content: Identical twins and YouTubers Ash and Liv Mescia vlog about travel, fitness, fashion and beauty in their daily life vlogs.

JARRADHD – 384K SUBSCRIBERS

What’s the content: JarradHD – also known as Jarrad Nance – is a gaming video creator and self-described “full time sports and culture nerd”. He films content of himself exploring a variety of popular video games including FIFA 21 and Call of Duty.

ALEX HAYES –- 380K SUBSCRIBERS

What’s the content: Celebrity Apprentice Australia participant Alex Hayes is a vlogger, surfer and influencer from Sydney’s northern beaches. His YouTube is full of videos depicting adrenaline-fuelled stunts and the budding DJ is also set to release new music.

What’s the content: Technology YouTuber and video producer Sam Beckman from the state’s Hunter Region creates videos exploring and reviewing tech hacks, new phones and other tech products, home office setups, apps, games and more.
