A Sutherland gym and chicken shop owner who was an “anti-vaxxer” threw eggs at a woman during an argument about his Covid symptoms because he did not believe in the virus, a court has heard.

Emmanuel Dovollos, 42, was sentenced in Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday to a series of domestic violence related offences.

The court heard Dovollos, who lives in San Souci, owned and operated two businesses Joe Jnr chicken shop and Metroflex Gym at Kirrawee.

Agreed facts tendered to court said in January 2017, Dovellos started fighting with a woman and he threw his phone at her, hitting her in the nose.

It caused a cut which bled so much she required hospital treatment.

Years later in April 2021, Dovellos was cooking when he and the woman began discussing Covid, which he did not believe in, the documents said.

The woman asked how Dovellos was feeling because he had Covid symptoms, and he began throwing eggs at her which hit her arms.

The woman received red marks from the eggs cracking and a video taken at the time revealed the woman said she was bleeding to which Dovellos replied, “sucked in, I hope you die, I hope you rot in hell you f---ing c---.”

The pair had another argument in March last year when Dovellos was clearing out items in his office and he became angry at the woman before he threw items at her and said, “I am going to f------ kill you”.

The woman reported the incidents to police in November and Dovellos was arrested with an apprehended violence order served on him.

He was not allowed to assault or threaten the woman nor go within 50m of where she lived or worked.

On November 26, Dovellos went to the woman’s house where he found her asleep on the lounge and accused her of being out all night before he got items and left.

Dovellos also posted a photo of her sleeping on his social media accounts before she contacted police and he was arrested.

Dovellos pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, intimidation and contravening an AVO.

In court, Dovellos’ lawyer said his client was an anti-vaxxer and the 2021 argument started when the woman was talking to Dovellos about being vaccinated.

The lawyer said Dovellos was upset at the government’s pandemic regulations because his gym was closed and he was in a financial dispute with landlords.

The lawyer said the 2017 incident was only reported years later.

He noted his client made the “stupid decision” to go to the woman’s house after attempts failed for his parents to contact her so he could get items.

The lawyer said Dovellos noticed the car was still warm and he had assumed the woman had been out all night but noted there was no violence during that incident.

He said Dovellos was now dealing with his anger management issues which included 10 sessions of counselling.

Magistrate Hugh Donnelly said the intimidation and threats to kill were the most serious as was breaching an AVO.

Mr Donnelly accepted Dovellos had a limited criminal history and noted he was a successful business owner and had shown contrition.

Dovellos was sentenced to a 12-month community correction order and fined $700.
