Police will allege the son of rugby league and union legend Wendell Sailor assaulted his girlfriend and defrauded her of hundreds of dollars through an instant messaging app.

Jackson Watson, 23, was arrested in Caringbah on October 15 and charged with common assault, intimidation and making a false document to obtain a financial advantage.

Police first began investigating the love child of dual international Wendell Sailor after a 24-year-old woman made allegations about his conduct in August.

Documents tendered to Sutherland Local Court indicate police will allege Watson sent an “instant message” appearing to be from “Grant ACAC” in order to unlawfully obtain $675 from his then-girlfriend on October 4.

Police will further allege Watson assaulted the woman in Caringbah on August 30, and had allegedly intimidated her at a Peakhurst Heights address on September 27.

Watson represented himself at his first appearance at Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday, where Magistrate Joy Boulos granted a two-week adjournment for him to seek legal advice.

He will be required to enter pleas to all three charges when he returns to court on November 3.

Ms Boulos also confirmed Watson is now subject to a provisional apprehended violence order which bans Watson from contacting his former partner, being within 100m of her, her workplace or her home, or from assaulting, threatening, stalking or harassing her.

The 23-year-old once seemed to have a promising rugby league career ahead of him, playing for the Central Coast Roosters’ U/18 Country Championship squad in 2015.

He then played for the Cronulla Sharks’ SG Ball squad alongside several players who went on to play first grade for various NRL clubs, including Blayke Brailey, Jackson Ferris, Kyle Flanagan, Fine Kula and Jaeman Salmon.

Watson and his half-brother Tristan Sailor once toured Europe in an Australian representative Indigenous side.

Tristan Sailor also had promise in the NRL, ascending to the St George Illawarra Dragons’ first grade squad, but he has been off-contract since late 2020.
