A Sydney airport worker has been refused bail after he allegedly led police on a dangerous pursuit where he went through a red light while five times over the alcohol limit.

Garrett Goff, 53, was arrested on Friday night and applied for release in Sutherland Local Court on Monday.

Documents tendered to court alleged Goff, who lives in Kogarah, was driving a black Ford Ranger along Rocky Point Rd, Ramsgate about 11pm on Friday.

The court heard Goff was told to pull over by police which he did and when an officer exited the car, Goff allegedly drove off again and went through a red light.

Police further allege Goff was driving while his licence was cancelled and he had a blood alcohol reading of 0.25g, which is five times above the legal limit.

In court, a police prosecutor noted Goff’s alleged manner of driving was “extremely serious” and he had shown disregard to driving rules when he allegedly drove while cancelled, adding he was therefore unlikely to comply with bail conditions.

Goff’s defence lawyer Jean Paul Khoury said his client was willing to comply with “extremely harsh” bail conditions.

Mr Khoury said Goff worked as an aircraft refueller at Sydney Airport but was in a training role.

The court also heard Goff needed to be at liberty to care for his children and he had family support with his partner and mother in court.

Mr Khoury also noted Goff would not have access to a car, noting he had allegedly driven his stepfather’s vehicle, and was willing to hand over his licence and passport.

Mr Khoury said Goff was also willing to comply with a night-time curfew, report daily to police, have weekly alcohol and drug testing and a surety could be offered.

Magistrate Holly Kemp said the prosecution case against Goff appeared strong and he allegedly put members of the community at risk.

She also noted Goff had two prior drink driving convictions on his record from 2014 and 2006 and was sentenced to an intensive correction order for driving in a dangerous manner in 2021.

Ms Kemp said if convicted Goff could be sentenced to full-time jail and she refused bail.

The case will return to court on November 7.
