A woman who allegedly stole more than $50,000 worth of luxury designer items from a jewellery store at Sydney Airport has had her police reporting removed.
Chantelle Carrington appeared at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday after she was charged with larceny by clerks or servants, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment.
The Daily Telegraph previously reported the Australian Federal Police responded to a complaint from a luxury airport store on January 9 which claimed items had been stolen by an employee.
Police later searched a Kingsgrove home and allegedly found four bracelets, three pens, two lighters, two bracelet keys, a pair of earrings, a wallet, a candle, a light and a men’s pendants – worth $50,225.
Investigators also seized a Sydney Airport visitor pass, an Australian passport and two electronic devices which will be subject to forensic examination and further investigation.
Carrington was later arrested at the home.
When representing herself last month, Carrington told the court reporting to police every day was “difficult” because she was a full-time mother and she was also studying full-time.
She was told she couldn’t amend her bail conditions and would have to make an application on another day.
This time around on Thursday, she was represented by lawyer Angelo Bilias who said the removal of reporting wasn’t opposed by the AFP.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Sharon Freund granted Carrington’s request, noting there was no objection from the prosecution.
It prompted Mr Bilias who entered a plea of not guilty on Carrington’s behalf.
The matter will return to court on April 11 with the brief of evidence to be served by March 28.
As previously reported, Carrington’s public Instagram and TikTok accounts listed her as a “musician”, however, her LinkedIn account said she worked as a client adviser at Ascot Diamonds in New York City from 2020 to July 2023 and at Giorgio Armani in the five years prior in Sydney.
She also has a business called Luxe Mecca, which ASIC records show she registered in July last year.
