A real estate agent at a prominent Sutherland Shire agency has fronted court after his “stupid decision” to get behind the wheel after drinking three bottles of wine.

Cameron Glen Miller, 28, pleaded guilty to mid-range drink driving in Sutherland Local Court on Thursday.

The Kirrawee father who works at Highland Property expected to be sentenced but the case was adjourned for two weeks.

Agreed facts tendered to court said police were conducting mobile patrols when they saw Miller’s car on Saunders Bay Rd at Caringbah South about 1.45am on May 26.

Miller broke harshly at an intersection to avoid police but officers turned around, activated warning lights and he pulled over on Telopea Ave.

Miller told officers he had “just finished a wine” and said: “I’ve had 10 drinks today, I know I’m done”.

Officers could smell alcohol when speaking with Miller and he returned a positive breath test.

Miller was taken to the police station and recorded a 0.112 reading, before he was charged and his licence was suspended.

In court, Miller’s lawyer Kevin Dwyer said his client had two young children and his wife was pregnant with their third, which was due on July 24.

Mr Dwyer said Miller had been without his licence for seven weeks and had employed a driver to allow him to continue working.

The court heard Miller’s employer was aware of his suspension and had kept him employed and would continued to do so.

Mr Dwyer said Miller had visited a friend’s house on the night he was pulled over and had drunk three bottles of wine and planned to get an Uber home.

A call from Miller’s mother asking him to help with his grandparents the following morning led to the agent opting to drive less than 2km to his mother’s house so he had his car.

Mr Dwyer said Miller acknowledged he made a “regrettable, dangerous and stupid decision” and had written a letter of apology.

The court also heard Miller needed his licence to attend his wife’s medical appointments and to drive his children to school.

Mr Dwyer asked Magistrate Brett Thomas to not record a conviction and place his client on a conditional release order which would mean Miller’s licence would not be disqualified.

Mr Thomas accepted Miller had a strong subjective case and needed a licence but noted the reading was in the mid range.

Mr Thomas adjourned the case to consider his decision to July 25 in Downing Centre Local Court.
