An enraged teen tradie who threatened to kill his new girlfriend while armed with a 30cm kitchen knife has avoided jail over the foul incident at a southern Sydney apartment.
Ben Dambiec, then 19, savagely assaulted his terrified then-girlfriend at a Sans Souci home after an argument during dinner.
A court heard the horrific violence peaked with Dambiec brandishing a 30cm kitchen knife at the woman as she cowered in her bed and filmed the vicious attack.
“The phone recording captured Dambiec stating ‘I will kill you c***, the phone’s not gonna save ya, I’m telling ya go the f*** to sleep’.”
Dambiec then switched the light off and knocked the phone out of the victim’s hand before swinging the knife out at the edge of the bed, cutting the bed sheets.
The Kensington man spent almost three months behind bars on remand at Bathurst Correctional Centre following his arrest.
He ultimately pleaded guilty to being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, common assault and unregistered firearm possession in relation to a replica Glock gel blaster.
At Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday, Dambiec narrowly avoided further jail time after Magistrate Les Mabbutt sentenced him to a 12-month intensive corrections order for being armed with intent.
He was also sentenced to a 12-month supervised community corrections order for the common assault, with 100 hours’ community service and an order to abstain from drugs and alcohol.
Dambiec was also fined $1200 for the fake Glock, which police uncovered inside a Gucci satchel at the Sans Souci unit after the assault.
