Ben Dambiec has admitted assaulting his girlfriend of a few short months at their southern Sydney apartment.

A furious young man threatened to kill his girlfriend while armed with a 30cm knife and even slashed her bedding after a vile argument in which he shoved her around their apartment.

Teen tradie Ben Dambiec was just 19 when he viciously assaulted his then-girlfriend of only four months at their Sans Souci home.

The horrific attack peaked with Dambiec waving a 30cm kitchen knife at his terrified girlfriend as she cowered in their bed in the middle of the night.

“The accused and the victim were eating dinner together in their unit and an argument ensued between the two,” agreed police facts state.

“While they were both standing, Dambiec shoved the victim in the shoulder using both hands.”

After the victim hid on the balcony for some time to prevent further assaults, Dambiec returned to the apartment and got into bed with her.

Hours later the victim woke in the middle of the night in tears as she recalled the earlier assault.

“Dambiec woke up after hearing the victim’s sobs and he became agitated,” agreed police facts state.

“He stated ‘shut the f*** up’ and told her to sleep.”

Dambiec then armed himself with a 30cm knife from their kitchen and stood in the doorway as the panicked victim began to film him on her mobile phone.

“The phone recording captured Dambiec stating ‘I will kill you c***, the phone’s not gonna save ya, I’m telling ya go the f*** to sleep’.”

Dambiec then switched the light off and knocked the phone out of the victim’s hand before swinging the knife out at the edge of the bed, cutting the bed sheets.

On the day he was to face a hearing at Sutherland Local Court, Dambiec pleaded guilty to one count of common assault and being armed with intent to commit assault.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing an unauthorised replica pistol related to a black replica Glock pistol found in a Gucci satchel which police later determined to be a gel blaster.

He had charges of possessing an unregistered firearm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intimidation withdrawn.

Dambiec – who spent some three months in custody after he was initially arrested at his parents’ Kensington home – will be sentenced at Sutherland Local Court on April 21.
