Allawah worksite death: Man found dead under truck

A man thought to be in his 60s has been found dead under a parked truck at a worksite.

A man believed to be in his 60s has been found dead under a truck at a worksite in Allawah in the early hours of this morning.

It is understood the man, who was part of a night roadwork crew near Hurstville, was hit by the truck at some point during his shift and caught under the vehicle.

According to police, the man was found dead under the truck shortly before 3.30am, which was parked on Railway Pde, close to Allawah Train Station.

It is not clear how long the man was trapped under the vehicle for.

As of 6am, emergency services were still unable to get him out from under the vehicle.

A crime scene has been established by officers attached to St George Police Area Command.

Railway Parade is closed to traffic in both directions between Illawarra and Elizabeth Sts, while pedestrian access to the train station on the eastern side is also closed.

Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit are attending the scene, along with representaties from SafeWork NSW.

“SafeWork NSW are onsite and investigating after a man was found deceased under a truck adjacent to where roadwork was taking place in Allawah,” a SafeWork spokesman said. “SafeWork’s investigation is ongoing and no further comment is available at this time.”
