A father of two was so enraged when “hoons” repeatedly threw eggs at his house that he went on a high speed, dangerous and predatory chase where he rammed their car four times.

A father went on a high-speed, dangerous and predatory chase of five young men in their car across multiple suburbs, where he rammed into them four times.

Shannon Scott Lord, 46, was sentenced at Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to driving in a dangerous manner and damaging property.

Agreed facts tendered to court said on March 5, five young men who don’t know Lord went to his Alfords Point address, where they threw eggs at his house and banged on his fence before running back to their car, a Hyundai i30.

Lord arrived home and found them in the car on a nearby street before he drove straight towards them and threw a brick that hit the driver’s side window.

The young people drove away, and Lord followed them in his Ford Territory before he rammed the car from behind.

Lord continued chasing the car where he increased his speed, changed lanes, drove on the wrong side of the road and tried to hit the car side on.

As the two cars travelled through several suburbs, Lord rammed the car two more times.

At one point in Menai, Lord threw another projectile at the car, which hit the passenger side window.

When they reached Bangor, Lord hit the Hyundai i30 for the fourth time before he stopped his car diagonally, forcing the other driver to stop.

The young people exited the car and approached nearby residents, asking for help.

Police were called, and Lord admitted to chasing the car and intentionally hitting it before he was arrested.

In court, Lord’s lawyer Urania Zafiris said Lord had long-standing mental health concerns and had been receiving treatment for several years for depression, anxiety and panic attacks.

She said had been provocation before the incidents where young people attended Lord’s home and threw eggs and other projectiles at the house and vehicle.

Ms Zafiris showed photos of the damage, which came at a cost to Lord.

She said Lord had previously called police on multiple occasions but felt there was “inactivity” from officers to follow up on his complaints, adding there had been further alleged incidents by the young men at his home since he was charged.

The court heard the young men knew Lord’s son, but the motive for the vandalism was unknown.

Lord will have to be of good behaviour for two years.

Ms Zafiris conceded Lord’s behaviour was serious, and he put himself, the young men and other road users at risk.

The court heard Lord was a father of two children and worked as a mechanic and needed his licence to test cars at work.

Magistrate Philip Stewart considered Lord’s very limited criminal record and mental conditions.

He said he would have ordinarily imposed a term of imprisonment but did not because there was “no doubt significant provocation by young hoons in the car”.

Mr Stewart said there was an “element of vigilantism”.

“The moronic and juvenile action of those who throw eggs provoked the defendant to take dangerous and excessive actions,” he said.

Lord was convicted and sentenced to a two-year community corrections order and was disqualified from driving for a year.
