Aged care worker vaccination rates in the Sutherland Shire and St George

New federal health data has revealed the vaccination rates of workers in every aged care home in Sydney’s south, including one home where up to 70% of staff remain unvaccinated.

Up to 70 per cent of workers at some southern Sydney aged care homes remain unvaccinated, new federal health data reveals states.

Many aged care homes in the Sutherland Shire and St George now have up to 100 per cent of their staff vaccinated after workers became eligible earlier in 2021.

However, some are lagging behind – with between 50 and 70 per cent yet to get the jab.

From September 17, all residential aged care workers – whether full time, part time or casual – must have had at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

One home in particular – HammondCare in Miranda – is now under pressure to get up to 70 per cent of their workforce vaccinated within the next three weeks.

HammondCare said in a statement that the Federal Government data “does not reflect today’s status for vaccination rates across our homes”.

HammondCare Chief Operating and Risk Officer Angela Raguz said: “HammondCare has a policy of only confirming to the Department of Health vaccinated staff numbers after evidence of vaccination is provided.

“HammondCare recognises vaccination is the greatest protection against COVID-19 to keep the vulnerable people in our care safe.

“HammondCare is confident all our frontline aged care staff will have at least one dose prior to the September 17 deadline and is taking action, including offering in-reach clinics, to get staff vaccinated.”

She said an “in-reach clinic” is booked for the Miranda facility to get as many staff vaccinated as possible. However, that would not be until sometime in the “first week of September”.
