The alleged driver of a second car accused of street racing moments before a horror crash which killed two young brothers has been slapped with manslaughter charges.

The alleged driver of a second car accused of street racing in the moments before a horror crash which killed two young brothers in Sydney’s south last year has been slapped with manslaughter charges.

About 10pm on August 25 emergency services were called to The Grand Parade, Monterey, after a Subaru WRX left the road and hit a tree.

Two boys – Peter, 9, and Xavier Abreu, 10 – died shortly after being taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital, while a nine-year-old girl and the alleged driver, 33-year-old Jimmy Martin Brito, escaped with relatively minor injuries.

Investigations were taken over by specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit, who charged Brito with two counts of aggravated dangerous driving causing death, and one count of cause bodily harm by misconduct.

He remains in custody before his next appearance in Downing Centre Local Court on May 2.

Police allege the Subaru and an Audi A4 sedan were street racing immediately before the crash.

The driver of the Audi, 25-year-old Adam Yurun from Roselands, was charged last September with two counts of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, organise, promote etc race between vehicles, and two counts of fail to stop and render assistance after impact causing death.

Following further inquiries, Yurun was charged with two counts of manslaughter on Thursday.

He will next appear at Downing Centre Local Court on May 2.

A 24-year-old woman, Raquel Marie Borg, alleged to be the passenger of the Audi at the time, remains on conditional bail charged with conceal serious indictable offence.

She is next due in court on April 11.
