NEW Year's Day will kick-off a massive year for sport in Sydney, with the Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney Thunder starting 2014 with important home games.

Western Sydney Wanderers will look to get 2014 off to a great start by snapping Wellington's two-match winning streak when the two A-League clubs lock horns at Pirtek Stadium on Wednesday.

The Wanderers will be looking to recover from their 1-all draw against the Melbourne Victory, which Wanderers striker Brenton Santalab described as a loss after a last-minute goal from Victory's Gui Finkler stripped two important premiership points from Western Sydney.

Santalab said the contest will be a tough match to start 2014.

"It's amazing what a couple of wins can do for a team's confidence, even down the bottom of the table, and they've had some decent results recently," he said.

Tickets start at $20 for adults, $10 for concession and juniors aged four to 16 and $40 for a family ticket.

After a winless 2013, Sydney Thunder will be out to start the new year with a win over the in-form Melbourne Stars in their Big Bash League clash at ANZ Stadium.

The Thunder will go in to the contest as underdogs as the Stars have scored 200 or more runs and recorded big wins in their opening two games of the competition.

Tickets cost $20 for adults, $5 for juniors aged six to 15, $12 for concession and $42.50 for a family ticket.

Central Coast Mariners will mark the end of a successful year for when they host Perth Glory at 6pm tomorrow at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford.

A-League and Big Bash League tickets are available at ticketek.com.au.
