Sydney Juniors v Brisbane rugby winners, scores, stars, standouts and new annual event confirmed

Sydney put on quite a show against their Brisbane opposites in three major matches with officials now planning to run the junior rugby event annually. Stars, standouts and result wrap.

Sydney teams cleanswept all three of their matches against Brisbane Juniors on Sunday but there was plenty to celebrate for both teams with news the event will become an annual competition.

Sydney Juniors’ Ben Gregory and Brisbane Juniors GM Ravin Du Plessis confirmed plans are underway to make the match day annual and to be played on a home-and-away basis.

Sydney U14 girls and boys teams and an U16 team flew to Brisbane on Sunday to play, with the visitors running out emphatic victors in all three games.

“It was a really good display of youth rugby,’’ said Du Plessis, who added some of Brisbane’s teams were a little depleted due to a conflicting sevens event on the same day.

“And we have also strengthened our relationship so we want to have these games annually on a Home And Away basis.

“Potentially for the 14s, 15’s and 16s next time.’’

Winslade said the entire team shone on the day.

“In the second half Freya Cairns (Gordon) had an outstanding game. Her read of the ball and communication to outside backs was fantastic. Her passing in support, backing up, her tackling were all great.

“And Armarni Bentley (Southern Districts) at No. 8 was good. Fast on the ball, turned the ball over and her tackling was outstanding.’’

“Anika (Penitani) at fly half was also very good and Ruby (Wilhelmus, Two Blues) in the front row was powerful and dominant.’’
