OVERCOMING adversity is something that swimmer Timothy Hodge, 12, knows all about.
At the age of four, he was diagnosed with a lower-leg deficiency that prompted doctors to amputate his right foot.
The setback did nothing to stop his competitive spirit, especially in swimming and athletics.
He set a School Sports Australia national record in shotput with a distance of 6.75m (athletes with a disability) in the 11-year age category in November.
In swimming, he will compete in backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle events at the Australian Age Multi-Class Swimming Championships in Adelaide, running from April 13-15.
At last year's NSW State Open Championships he placed in the top 10 in the 200m individual medley, 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle multi-class events.
He was also named the under-12 Age Champion at Patrician Brothers College, Blacktown, and won a silver and two bronze medals at the Metropolitan Catholic Schools' Swimming Carnival.
Despite his feats on the track, Timothy said he still preferred swimming.
"It is great to be able to compete at a national event because I get to compete against Australia's best swimmers and get to fly to different states to compete," he said.
"In the future my ultimate goal would be to be chosen in the Paralympic team to represent Australia." The Junior Sports Stars are proudly sponsored by Rebel.See nomination details below if you know a talented athlete.
