IT IS going to be a big summer in the pool for Hills Sports High swimmer Kody Szabo.
The Year 7 student at the Seven Hills school has been making a splash between the lane ropes with five club record-breaking times.
With only four years of competitive swimming experience, Kody, 12, is quickly making a name for himself as one to watch.
Personal best times of 28.15 seconds in the 50m freestyle and 2 minutes 15.45 seconds in the 200m freestyle propelled him to selection in the Metro North West representative squad and qualification for the state and metropolitan titles.
The dedicated swimmer also won the title of age champion with his club Windsor.
“I love competitive swimming,” he said. “It is exciting to get on the blocks and prepare for the starter’s signal.
“There’s a lot of training and sacrifice which goes into swimming but I enjoy it.”

Kody is training for State and Metro titles in December and January’s school championships.
To break up his training, the Grose Vale resident has taken up water polo.
Kody’s mother Lisa Szabo said her son’s commitment to his sport was incredible.
“For someone so young to give up so much of his time to train is amazing,’’ she said. “He has done so well and I couldn’t be prouder.”
Kody has been nominated for a Junior Sports Star Award. The awards are sponsored by Rebel. Seven News is our media partner.
