Sam Konstas’ blistering start to the summer is set to reach new heights as the Sydney Thunder look for a new opener.
The 19-year-old is favoured to open the batting alongside veteran blaster David Warner.
His form has caught the eye of SuperCoach BBL ambassador Mike Hussey, who is locking in the young gun to spearhead his team when the competition begins on Sunday.
“There’s so much good young talent coming through the tournament,” Hussey said.
“It looks like Sam Konstas is going to play because Nic Maddinson has a broken finger
“He’s in my team.”
Maddinson’s injury is an untimely blow for the Thunder right on the cusp of the new season.
However it will present another chance for Konstas to mount his case for higher honours after knocks of 88 for NSW and 107 for the Prime Minister’s XI in his last two outings at the crease.
Hussey was on deck at the SCG to launch the new SuperCoach BBL season, rating an English all-rounder and Kiwi big hitter as the pick of the international brigade.
“Tom Curran for the Stars should be very good. He can contribute with both the bat and the ball,” he said.
“Finn Allen at the top of the order for the Scorchers. He seems to be pretty dangerous on a good pitch and could be pretty handy.”
While the Scorchers and Sixers sit atop the rankings with the bookies, Hussey
“I’m a Thunder fan so I’m always hoping for them to go well,” he said.
“The Scorchers have been strong year in, year out, as have the Sixers.
“You watch the Heat last year and they played good cricket throughout the whole tournament and got on a roll at the right time. So it’s a bit hard to predict at this stage.
“I’d love to see the Renegades do well. They’ve had a tough few years and been perennially down the bottom, so I’d love to see them turn a corner and have a good season.”
