2023 was a disappointing year in junior reps for the Rabbitohs.

In similar vein to the first grade side, all three junior reps sides failed to make finals, slumping down in the bottom half of the table.

However, the 2024 roster for Harold Matthews, Tarsha Gale and SG Ball should give Rabbitohs fans a reason to believe, with plenty of talent itching to get themselves noticed.

From fresh recruits from across the border, to skilful young guns from union and touch footy backgrounds, there’s plenty to be excited about.

While many remain undiscovered, we’ve picked out 17 young talents we think are ready to impose themselves in the junior rep system in 2024.

Check them out below.

Jason Hallie (SG Ball)

A big coup for the Rabbitohs, signing a one-year deal to bring him down from Tully in the Far North of Queensland.

The powerful prop forward caught eyes across the border when he crossed for four tries in one match for the Northern Pride in the Mal Meninga Cup against the Capras.

With comparisons made to the likes of Tom Burgess and Davvy Moale, he’s one to watch for sure.

Top try scorer for the Rabbitohs in Harold Matthews last season with seven, which was joint third highest in the competition.

A former Waratahs development player, he’ll be looking to carry his try scoring prowess into SG Ball from the wing.

An x-factor talent who gets his first taste at SG Ball after playing Harold Matthews last season, scoring two tries.

The speedster has great agility and distribution skills gained from a touch footy background, with physicality as well from playing rugby with the Waratahs under-16s.

He’ll likely look for a five-eighth role and use his trickery to get his side on the front foot.

Son of celebrity chef Manu Feildel, the Roosters junior is returning to the Rabbitohs for his second year of SG Ball.

He scored three tries last year from centre and wing.

Matthew Humphries (SG Ball)

After two seasons of Harold Matthews footy between the Roosters and Rabbitohs, Humphries continues to rise the ranks into SG Ball.

Has showed some good glimpses of his potential, scoring four tries from the halves last year, providing good leadership and some talent off the kicking tee.

Charlie Poynton (SG Ball)

New Zealand-born Poynton is a damaging outside back with lethal pace and good strength to fend off defenders.

Has an impressive rugby union resume with Waratahs under-16s experience, but has crucially shown his ability to adapt and be just as valuable in league.

Zane Rugless (SG Ball)

In 2020, Cameron Smith’s manager Isaac Moses touted the then 14-year-old as one of the best he’s seen.

Since then, the NSW Oztag representative has lined-up for the Roosters and Rabbitohs in five-eighth in the Harold Matthews Cup, now getting his first crack at SG Ball.

Shaq Saunders (SG Ball)

Made a name for himself with an incredible ‘double chip-and-chase’ try at the 2022 Koori Knockout.

Hailing from the small town of Karuah, 45 minutes north of Newcastle, the young gun was in hot demand after his viral try.

But with a bit of help from cousin Latrell Mitchell, he put pen to paper with the Rabbitohs and is an exciting prospect.

Daniel Wright (SG Ball)

A second year of SG Ball for centre Wright, who in 2022 was the co-captain of the Harold Matthews side and voted as best back that season.

The Botany Rams junior is a former NSW CIS under-18s representative, praised for his workrates, versatility, toughness and line-running.

Makkah Darcy (Tarsha Gale)

The Dubbo youngster makes the move from the Parramatta system to South Sydney in 2024.

She represented the Country under-19s team in 2023, lining up in lock forward.

Typically a second rower but has ball skills that can see her in a lock role as well.

Great knowledge of the game and ruthless in defence, she represented Samoa under-18s in the 2023 Harmony Cup, as well as scoring seven tries at club level with Cabramatta under-18s.

Mikayla Langer (Tarsha Gale)

Has been on the up in 2023, playing a solid campaign for the Sharks in the Lisa Fiaola Cup, before earning City representation in the under-17s.

A Como-Jannali Crocs junior, the hooker can be a real game changer, damaging around the ruck.

Shanelle Lyons (Tarsha Gale)

Led the way for the Rabbitohs in last year’s competition with a team-high four tries.

The centre from La Perouse is a devastating ball runner who causes havoc for opposition defences.

She’s also the niece of former Souths first grader Graham Lyons.

Nancy Sullivan (Tarsha Gale)

An exciting signing from across the border who has been tearing it up for the Sunshine Coast Falcons, Caloundra Sharks and Brisbane Natives in Queensland.

Sullivan is a damaging ball runner from the second row or lock. Great foot speed when attacking the line, strength to bump off defenders and put on a mean shot in defence.

Tamoko Berryman-Duff (Harold Matthews)

A highly touted junior five-eighth who made the Australian under-15s Schoolboys side in 2022.

With a touch footy background, he’s developed a killer distribution game with long cut-out passes and is good off the boot as well.

He’s also represented the NSW Waratahs at under-15s level.

Tanner Mahon (Harold Matthews)

Another exciting young gun from the Australian under-15s Schoolboys side in 2022, Mahon is a damaging edge or prop forward.

Has made rep squads across both league and union and is returning for his second year of Harold Matthews.

Lochlin Moses (Harold Matthews)

A Mascot junior and a standout performer for La Perouse under-17s in the Koori Knockout this year, producing some ferocious hits and stellar defence from the back row.

The former NSW CHS rep returns for a second year of Harold Matthews.
