The countdown is on to the start of the Shute Shield with a number of teams testing their mettle in trial matches this weekend.

The countdown is on to the start of the Shute Shield with a number of teams testing their mettle in trial matches this weekend.

After a long delay to the club rugby competition start due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teams have only been back in full contact training this month.

The series of matches this weekend will give clubs the chance to assess their form ahead of the Shute Shield start on July 18.

At the end of the regular season qualifying finals will begin on October 17, followed by elimination finals on October 24 and then the grand final on October 31.

On Saturday, eight Shute Shield teams will play trial matches across Sydney.
