NSW Sheffield Shield coach Phil Jaques is impressed with young spinner Tanveer Sanga but said he won’t be “rushing’’ the teenager from Ingleburn in Sydney’s west.
Sangha took 3-22 in his first spell for NSW at Drummoyne Oval last week against a Victorian side which eventually took the Sheffield Shield match by 204 runs.
It was a memorable day for the young gun who in his BBL debut last December took a wicket on his third ball for Sydney Thunder.
It also impressed Jaques, in Victoria as his team prepares to avenge the first-up loss to Victoria at the MCG from Friday.
“He is very exciting,’’ Jaques said. “He settled in very quickly and he has the skills and making of a really promising young spinner.
“We are excited by him. He has a mature head on a young body. He is meticulous and has a good fun nature.
“But we are taking our time with him,’’
Sangha is part of an unchanged squad preparing for NSW’s second match of the season at the MCG.
The squad also includes Sean Abbott, who took six wickets in the opener against Victoria, and test spinner Nathan Lyon.
