Last year Rugby Sevens young gun Charlie Norton lead her side to victory from the field.
This year she did it from the sidelines.
The Hunter rugby talent cheered CHS I to their victory over CHS II at the NSW schools championship and selection trials for the upcoming Australian Schools rugby championships at Eric Tweedale stadium on Friday.
While their earlier meeting in the rounds had resulted in a draw, CHS I dominated the finale of the girls tournament which was also being used to select NSW side for the upcoming Australian schools championships.
CHS lead 24-5 until the dying minutes of the finale with a fighting CHS II coming home hard for a late second try.
Norton, whose knee was in a brace after she sustained an injury on Thursday, said players from. both sides were mates but these friendships were pushed to one side for the final.
“We spoke about it before the game, that we had to put the friendships aside,” Norton said.
Norton, who will play Jack Scott with the Hunter Wildfires, is moving away from Sevens Rugby after signing on with the NSW Waratahs program.
The next major outing for our top schoolgirl sevens players is at the Australian schools rugby championships which are also being played at Eric Tweedale.
This Sydney tournament, also being contested by schoolboy teams in XV rugby, kicks off on July 4.
