NEW WEIGHT-FOR-AGE COMP A SUCCESS
ST CLAIR 24-20 BROTHERS
CAMERON SMITH (ST CLAIR)
As St Clair half Tyler Birnie lined up a penalty shot at goal after the final siren, the outcome for the Comets was simple — either a draw or defeat.
Parked on the right wing, Cameron Smith was having none of it. And when the ball sailed wide of the posts, his pace and determination to keep the play alive culminated in a miraculous four-pointer after a Brothers fumble.
JOSER POMALE (ST CLAIR)
He’s the big prop with big hair who delivers even bigger metres. Under pressure in the dying stages, the committed No.10 won his side two crucial penalties after wholehearted carries through the centre field.
RYAN GONCALVES (BROTHERS)
Another spirited performance on the left edge. The gifted back rower picked up the intensity when Brothers were reduced to 12 just before halftime. Ran a perfect inside line after the break, scoring near the posts to put Brothers ahead by eight ahead.
COLYTON 12-36 WINDSOR
HENRI YOUNG (WINDSOR)
The punishing prop set the tone from the get-go with his barnstorming charges. Kept Colyton on the back foot as his teammates took care of the scoreboard.
COOPER HENDERSON (WINDSOR)
Another stylish performance from the Wolves No.1. Presented on both sides of the field in the lead up to the opening try, and was on hand to put the result beyond doubt after the break with the opening try.
HAYDEN BROWN (COLYTON)
In a badly beaten side, the skilful prop stuck to his task, punching out big metres and often creating second-phase play.
RIVERSTONE 4-58 ST MARYS
CHARLES MANAPORI-REU (ST MARYS)
The Saints halfback had a day out at Riverstone. Scored a double and kicked seven conversions for a personal haul of 22 points.
MASSIMO MAESTRALE (ST MARYS)
A captain’s knock by the dependable No.13 Mixed lethal carries through the middle with deft ball play on the edges as the game opened up.
LIAM BELL (ST MARYS)
A constant presence around the ruck in a high-scoring contest, the clever hooker provided premium service and rocked the Razorbacks with several rib-rattling hits.
EMU PLAINS 14-36 CAMBRIDGE PARK
MARCUS PATIOLE JOHNSON (CAMBRIDGE PARK)
An absolute weapon on Cambo’s right edge, the backrower pushed up all day and continued to attract defenders with an without the ball. Offloaded at will in a dominant performance.
BLAKE VAN DRIE (CAMBRIDGE PARK)
Packed a punch with every carry and made it his duty to straighten the attack. The busy lock maintained the rage and was rewarded with a late try.
JUNIOR TUTAVAKE (CAMBRIDGE PARK)
Stationed outside a skilled right edge, the flying winger crossed twice. A noted finisher, the long striding No.2 mixed pace and deception to score a memorable long range effort.
