HAROLD MATTHEWS
PAYTON TARAU (SOUTH SYDNEY)
Turned the game in South Sydney’s favour in the second half against Penrith with two crucial tries including the matchwinner. Growing in confidence as a running five-eighth and whoever his halves partner will be in the finals, he will give them an element of class.
RILEY ROSTRON (NEWCASTLE)
Was a busy performance from the Knights fullback who constantly helped get his side on the front foot. Was in the right place at the right time to get on the end of a grubber for his first try and his second helped seal the game.
CHRISTOPHER MOALA (PARRAMATTA)
The centre completely took over the game against Wests to help keep their season alive. His two tries saw him beat about half of the Magpies side with his speed and strength, and was able to help set up another two in a dominant display from the centre.
JETT BROOKFIELD (ILLAWARRA)
Really set the game up from the opening whistle to wrestle the game out of the hands of North Sydney inside 15 minutes. Used his size to score the opener when he weaved through defenders, before setting up the next two to cap a rampant opening.
LUKAS BUTLER (MANLY)
A typically sound performance from the Sea Eagles lock who seemed to be everywhere you turned. His ball-playing was superb throughout the morning, including a lovely double-pump to put Kai Brennan over.
LISA FIAOLA
CHARLOTTE TEPLICANEC (CRONULLA)
The fullback produced what was arguably the play of the match in Cronulla’s nailbiting two-point victory over the Roosters. With no regard for self preservation, the gutsy No.1 left nothing in the tank, bundling try-bound Roosters winger Ayva Papalii over the sideline inches shy of the stripe.
MAY FUIMAONO (WESTS TIGERS)
Going in against Parramatta as underdogs, the Tigers needed everyone on point and May Fuimaono didn’t let her teammates down. With punishing charges, the prop bent the line and showed great strength, powering across for the go-ahead try just after halftime.
HALLE BARRETT (ILLAWARRA)
The Steelers centre enjoyed the open space in Illawarra’s win over Manly. Showed great strength to open her side’s account and hit top gear with a long range effort to put the result beyond doubt with 20 to play.
SHANTHIE LUI (CANTERBURY)
Among a handful of Bulldogs to dominate against Newcastle. The fullback set the scene for the early onslaught, combining size and pace to make short work of the Knights defence to score the first two tries.
KYMIAH STEWART (CANBERRA)
The backrower was all class in the Raiders’ big win over Norths. Stationed on the left edge, she sliced through in the opening minute and was on hand minutes later to score from a kick. Far from done, the No.11 showed slick hands to assist inn Canberra’s third.
SG BALL
KADE REED (ILLAWARRA)
Ever consistent, the Steelers half was at his finest in the mauling of the Bears. Scored a hat-trick and bobbed up on both sides of the ruck, playing a key role in eight of his team’s nine tries.
LORENZO TALATAINA (PARRAMATTA)
It’s not the first time we’ve seen the Parra half on these pages. At his elusive best against the Magpies, the No.6 continually had defenders on high alert through the middle and beat five tacklers on route to sealing the contest after halftime.
TOBY WINTER (NEWCASTLE)
One of Newcastle's best in the narrow loss to Canterbury, the fullback had a hand in a couple of tries and lifted fans out of their chairs when he cleaned up a kick on his own line before busting clear to score a length of the field try.
TAJ ALVAREZ (SOUTH SYDNEY)
The five-eighth supercharged the Rabbitohs with a hat-trick in the big win over Penrith. Did it alone from dummy half for the first and backed up to finish a long range effort before the interval that broke the Panthers’ spirit.
DARCY SMITH (SYDNEY ROOSTERS)
Untouchable on the Tricolours’ left edge, the bustling backrower put on a clinic at Leichhardt. Delivered a magic left-foot step to score his first try, and showcased strength and desire to bag another two in the 14-point victory.
TARSHA GALE
ELLA ROPATA (CRONULLA)
It was a spirited comeback from the Sharks to knock off the Roosters and Ella Ropata played a big hand in that. Set up a pair of tries on the left-hand side, with the second seeing her step her way through the opposition before putting her winger over.
ELISE SIMPSON (CANBERRA)
Canberra went back-to-back and Elise Simpson was superb at the back. She slotted all five shots at goal, including a few tough efforts, and kickstarted the comeback with a strong solo effort off a scrum to get them rolling.
MADISON WILSON (PENRITH)
Bring in a race at halftime of the Tarsha Gale Cup GF, because I doubt anyone would get close to Wilson. Received the ball on her own 10m line and streaked away on halftime to give the Panthers a lift, before finishing off an easier one in the second to give her a double.
PAULINE SULI-RUKA (CANTERBURY)
The Bulldogs faced their toughest battle in a while against the Knights and it was Pauline Suli-Ruka who came to the fore. She made a number of breaks on her left-hand edge, including setting up her centre to get them back in the game.
TORI SHIPTON (ILLAWARRA)
Has put her name in the frame for best dummy half in the division and her outing against Manly was another in her long list of showcase games. Is near unstoppable when she gets out of hooker close to the line and added another double to her tally.
