There was a late scratching from the schoolboy eight by a favourite, a few upsets and plenty of thrilling battles as some of the states best young rowers contested the NSW Schoolboy Head of the River at Penrith on Sunday.

There was also an early form guide written ahead of next weekend’s NSW AAGPS Head of the River at the same venue as early morning fog gave way to heatwave conditions at the rowing centre used at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

A day after St Catherine’s Waverley dominated the eight racing at the NSW Schoolgirl Head of the River with a stunning performance which saw them finish just .36 seconds off a course record and Pymble take the overall crown, it was The Scots College crew who claimed the first eight crown on Sunday.

In one of the most hotly contested races of the day, the Scots 1 crew of Jack Pinn, William Dimitroulis, Henry Pursehouse, Ned Hufton, Trephon Stambolie, George Calligeros, Angus Tremlett, Iwo Ellis and cox William Chang beat the Shore crew of Lawson Banks, Oscar Muhlbauer, Hugo Patrick, Tom Galligan, Remy Cameron, Corrie Sloan, Will Clubb, Thomas Wair and cox Mackensie Fox.

The Newington outfit of Oscar Sutherland, Noah Tainsh, Tom Chanter, Christian Biasotto, Angus Mitchell, Morgan Joens, Jamie de Botton. William Fuller and cox Will Nicholas finished third.
