The batsmen let rip - including a New Zealand star - but there was also a star display from a bowler in the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup. NSW Premier cricket results wrap.

There were some extraordinary batting displays in the Kingsgrove Cup T20 series on the weekend but none better than the one produced by Penrith opener Tynan Liddiard.

His 104 was the highest individual score by a batsman in the T20 comp this seasons and the first century.

Liddiard, 23, achieved the feat in Penrith’s win over Hawkesbury at Howell Oval on Sunday.

Daniel Sams from Randwick Petersham was another standout at the crease, scoring 92 in his teams victory over UNSW.

The 92, which included eight sixes off 41 balls, was his third such score in first-grade.

The second of these was also in a T20 match, against St. George back in 2017, and included nine sixes off 39 balls.

KINGSGROVE CUP PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Joining Liddiard and Sams as stars of the round was dual Australian/British citizen and Manly Warringah gun Tom Lammonby.

The 21-year-old produced the best bowling figures of the round with his 4-9 off four overs. Lammonby is a former English under 19s player.

A host of players bought up half centuries including Gordon’s Max Newman with 53, Parramatta’s Nick Bertus with 57, Saint George player and New Zealand star Colin Munro with 61, Tom Jagot with 63 for UTS North Sydney, Aiden Bariol with 50 for the same club and Ben Bryant with 62 for Manly.

Liddiard leads the top scorers list from Gordon’s Neumann and Sutherland’s Calem Wetherall.

NSW PREMIER CRICKET ROUND FOUR STANDOUTS AND STARS

The rains came but so did a stunning performance from former Sydney Thunder star Jay Lenton in the fourth round of NSW Premier Cricket on the weekend.

The wicketkeeper/bat was integral in Manly Warringah recording their victory against UTS North Sydney on a weekend of wild conditions.

He became the first player in first grade to produce two centuries in the opening for rounds of the 2021/22 competition.

It was also his 13th century in his first grade career.

Lenton’s innings of 120 not out included a whopping seven sixes and this was the fourth time he has hit seven or more sixes in an innings.

In another standout performance, Will Simpson scored 69 off 31 balls for Easts.

Up against Gordon, his innings included eight sixes - the lowest score to include so many sixes according to cricket guru Colin Clowes.

“The previous lowest score was 71 by Edmund Woolcott for Leichhardt-Balmain against Redfern, on Leichhardt Oval on November 11 1901,’’ Clowes said.

“Woolcott batted at number 11 and the sporting newspaper, The Referee, wrote of his innings: ‘he hit out brilliantly, driving the ball out of the ground in a manner that astounded and delighted the spectators and his comrades. Of his first 50, 40 were made from hits out of the ground - eight fives’.

“At that time, the six of today was awarded five. On larger grounds a hit clean out of the ground was awarded six.’’

In another notable performance Will Salzmann scored 57 not out for Campbelltown Camden ahead of his trip to South Australia to press for selection in the Australian under 19 team
