When Emma Hoskins received an email telling her a design she had done for a T-shirt competition run by Little Athletics had won she went into shock.
“I was shaking a bit,” said the 11-year-old who will be competing at this weekend’s NSW championships at Sydney Olympic Park.
“Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it at all. I was shocked but proud of myself.
“To see a lot of people wearing it will be weird. I never expected to design a T-shirt.”
The Quakers Hill public school student competes for her local club and loves athletics. She also loves art.
“Mum found the competition on Facebook and she showed it to me,” Emma said.
“I wanted to take part. I felt it was a way to show my story of Little Athletics NSW, how I have come up through the years and taken part and what it meant to me.
“Aboriginal artists don’t really design things, we tell a story in our artwork and this was my story of the connections of Little Athletics’s and mother Earth.”

Emma will be competing in the U12 1500m walk event on the weekend for her Quakers Hill Little Athletics club.
“I love it there. No matter if you are good or bad or just having fun, there no criticism of you, just encouragement and help,” she said.
“People are amazed by what you can do, not what you cant; do.
“I feel I belong there.”
