NSW junior rugby state title result wrap: Sydney, Country champs, try scorers, top clubs, 2024 winners

NSW’s best young city and country rugby players - along with some big names - show the future of rugby is in good hands at the NSW junior titles. Result wrap winners and standouts.

Six-year-old destroys opposition in junior footy match

While flooding forced the cancellation of the under 12 competition at Camden in Sydney’s south west, officials managed to hold competition for every other age group at there 2024 NSW Junior Rugby state championships across the June holiday weekend.

Randwick, Sydney Uni and the Two Blues were among the leading Sydney clubs at the event with the Hunter Wildfires, Illawarra and Central Coast among the standouts from the country.

With the NSW state champions decided on Monday at assorted venues across the state, Sunday’s matches gave a sneak preview of the form of top teams while also deciding both the Sydney Cup and Country Championship winners.

But on Monday it was all about the battle to be top dogs in the state across the different age groups.

And the competitions threw up some great games and performances from the next generation of NSW rugby players.

NSW JUNIOR RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULT WRAP

In the U13 boys competition ACT Junior Rugby Union defeated Warringah 19–5.

Sioeli Hifo went over for two tries while William Ball converted two.

In the under 14 girls State Cup grand final, Sydney University/Penrith drew with Illawarra 17–17

Tarnaya Smith scored two tries for Sydney University and converted one.

Rora Te Ra Chase scored a try and made two conversions and kicked a penalty for Illawarra.

In the under 14 boys the Two Blues dominated Manly for the win.

The Western Sydney club won the match 47–12 with tries from Jacob Semaan and a double from Jake Capovilla along with four conversions from Mathias Toailoa.

In the under 15 boys the Western Sydney Two Blues emerged from a tight tussle 7–5 victors over Northern Suburbs.

Emanuel Higgins scored the Two Blues only try with Payten Tarau converting.

In the under 16 boys Randwick defeated Warringah 17–0 in the state championship final.

Jarryd King, Cooper Morrison and Saxon Gaw all scored tries in the match.

In the under 16 girls Central Coast defeated Manly 22–3.

Lahni Moore was one of the stars for the Central Coast with two tries.

In the under 18 boys Randwick snared another title with their 7–3 win over Sydney University.

Thomas Johnson went over with Sebastien Elizondo converting.

In the under 18 girls Sydney University took on the Two Blues in a much anticipated game.

Stacked with top players, Sydney Uni won the state title with a try and conversion from Caitlyn Halse and a try from Giavanna Leo.

COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP WRAP

Central Coast won the Country title in the U14 girls and boys and U16s girls competitions.

in 2023 to be one of the most successful clubs in this event.

Mid North Coast won the U15 boys and. Hunter the U16 boys while

Illawarra/Southern Districts won the U18 girls and Far North Coast the U18 open Country titles.

On Sunday in the U14 girls, the Hunter Wildfires had a big win over Illawarra.

Hunter took the match 19-5 with Molly Fitzhenry a standout with a try and two conversions.

Hunter also tasted success in the U13 boys comp with their big 50-5 win over Central Coast.

Wendall Wilhelmus put on a show with three tries for his Hunter side while Sidney Maxwell scored two.

In the 14s boys Illawarra beat the Far North Coast 36-7. Illawarra shared the scoring around with Ari Smith was one of the standouts with a try and three conversions.

Hunter had another win in the U15 boys with their 25-10 victory over Illawarra.

Cody Holland, Asera Peniata, Oliver McGarity and Alex Johnston all went over.

In the U16 boys, Mid North Coast beat Illawarra 3-0 in a low scoring encounter with Kden Carter nailing a penalty.

In the U16 girls, Central Coast got the better of Hunter 39-5.

Amalie Casey scored twice with Charli Hardgrave scoring a try and two conversions.

Hunter beat Mid North Coast 26-12 in the U18 boys with Archie Bennett, Mitchell Balzer, Xavier Stewart and Brody Dudgeon all scoring

Central North won the U18 girls with a 14-5 triumph over the Hunter Wildfires.

Samantha Roche and Parisse Orig both scored.

SYDNEY CUP WRAP

In 2023 the Two Blues won both the Sydney Cup in both the U14 and U16 girls.

Warringah won the U14 boys and Sydney University the U16s girls Cups.

Gordon were victors in the U16 boys and Penrith won the U18 girls comp while Randwick claimed the U18 Sydney Cup victory.

On Sunday Manly beat the Two Blues 16-0 to claim the U16 girls Sydney Cup with Bailey Ma-Chang nailing two penalty kicks.

In the U13 boys Penrith beat Manly 22-5. Penrith’s Soakimi Latu scored twice for his side in a great performance.

In the U14 boys the Two Blues came up with a 14-0 win over Southern Districts to win the 2024 Sydney Cup.

Rossetti Matualoto and Urijah Brown both scored with Leonard Salter converting both.

In the U14 girls, Sydney Uni beat West Harbour Southern 22-7.

In the U15 boys Warringah took the honours with a close 8-5 victory over Norths.

Issac Street scored and Wilson Ruthven converted for Warringah.

Randwick had a big over Gordon in the U16 boys to take the Cup with a 41-7 win.

Beau McKee scored twice in a seven try entertainer.

Randwick tasted more success in the U18 boys with their 12-7 victory over Eastwood.

The mighty Sydney Uni 18s team won the Sydney Cup without a point scored against them.

Kiana Vatubua scored two tries and Waratah Caitlyn Halse kicked two conversions.
