The nephew of Wallaby legend Nick Farr-Jones and an electrifying teen with talent across numerous football codes were among the stars of an entertaining - if lopsided - show as the NSW Waratah Gen Blues kept intact their undefeated run in the U16 National Rugby championships on Sunday.
The young Tahs demolished Western Forces 62-14 in the final match of the rounds for their fourth victory of the tournament played between youngsters form the Super Rugby clubs.
Randwick’s speedster Tom Farr-Jones went over twice in the match which saw the Waratahs outscore Forces 10 tries to two in Perth.
Teammate Mitchell Woods from St Patrick’s College, a much-touted rising star of rugby who also plays AFL and rugby league with the Canterbury Bulldogs, was another to score twice in the Tahs try-fest.
The pair shared the scoring limelight with Zion Poitaha, Casey McLean, captain Marshall Le Maitre, Zach Fittler, Daniel Meafou and Riley Evans.
Their dominance of the rounds will see the U16 Gen Blues side enter next Sunday’s grand final against the Queensland Reds as firm favourites.
The team is being coached by Paul Cividin who still wants to see more from his young men in the competition decider.
“There is still room for improvement, areas we can tidy up. We are creating opportunity but sometimes they are overplaying their hands,’’ Cividin said.
“Mitch (Woods) was outstanding. He has top-end speed and acceleration, great footwork - he has so many threats for defence, It’s so hard for them to shut him down.
“He identifies space really well, he plays at high speed as well.
“Tom Farr-Jones, he had a great performance, he is a great attacking player but in defence he was also good for us.
“Zion was good as well, very busy around the place and he had a great game.
“Marshall was also very good and Maz Meagher, our starting hooker had a good game.
“Zach (Fittler) and Riley (Evans) in the centre were outstanding.’’
