KODA Killorn is shaping up as a real threat in the under-14s boys division of the NSW Grommet State Titles at Maroubra Beach.
But the surfer himself is staying humble and level-headed as he prepares for the event at his home break on July 22-24.
“I don’t know if I’m a threat … there are heaps of good surfers coming,” Killorn said of the 130 grommets competing in the event, which is part of the annual Beach Breaks Carnival.
“I’ve been surfing every day and keeping active, doing sprint training to try and get my fitness level up.”
Competitors in the under-12s and under-14s divisions will be vying for the coveted NSW Junior Title.
The Maroubra local is hoping for 3 to 5 foot waves. “When I’m out there I’ll be focusing on staying in my own head space,” he said.
“If someone else gets a good wave you can’t worry about that … you just have to focus on your own surfing.”
