Junior Sports Star Young Achiever nominee Foday Bawoh has shot to fame at the Sydney West Primary Athletics carnival in the 100m, 200m and 800m races.

He first attended Shalvey Public School in term 3 of last year which meant he was too late to enrol in any sports carnivals.

This year, the 12-year-old won the 100m and 200m races and also took out the 800m, which saw the talented athlete break the school’s 27-year-old 800m record by a tenth of a second.

Despite finishing 16th at the state carnival, he took a further 13 seconds of his own 800m record.

Assistant principal at Shalvey Public School, Mark Titheridge, said Foday had excelled in rugby league and athletics from the minute he put his foot on the field.

“He just stepped up,” Mr Titheridge said.

“He’s a very quiet kid but he listens.

“If you explain what he’s got to do, he will do exactly what you said.”

Nominations for Junior Sports Star awards have now closed.
