JSS nominee Jade is crowned springboard and synchro diving champion

Jade is the 2014 NSW All schools 12-years springboard diving champion and our latest Junior Sports Star nominee.

JADE Sweeney was crowned 2014 NSW All schools 12-years springboard diving champion and won a host of medals at state and national competitions throughout the year.

Jade is the latest nominee for the Penrith Press Junior Sports Star Award, sponsored by Rebel, and competes in springboard and platform diving, as well as synchronised diving with her NSWIS partner Kennedy Cooper.

“Jade was a gymnast prior to her selection with the NSWIS Talent Identification Squad for diving,” her mother Tracy Sweeney said.

“She trains alongside Olympians and Commonwealth Games champions such as Matt Mitcham, Melissa Wu and Esther Qin.

“They are all great role models for the younger NSWIS divers and Jade certainly is inspired by them.

“She is very committed and has an amazing work ethic. It is great to see her hard work paying off.”

Jade trains six days a week and has been national synchro champion two years running.

“I love diving, the higher the platform the better,” Jade said.

“I was selected to represent NSW in the 13 years age group so I was competing against 13 and 14-year-olds in platform.

“It was a great surprise to come home with two bronze medals as well as synchro gold again.”

Jade knows one day she wants to be diving on the biggest stage.

“I do hope to go to the Olympics it is one of my goals but for now I am working on improving all the time to be the very best I can be,” she said.
