The talented middle-distance runner has become one of her age group’s top track prospects after a stellar performance at the NSW Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park in September.

A second-placed finish in the 800m with a personal best time of 2 minutes 26.04 was an incredible result for the Glenwood High Year 8 student who took up running competitively only four years ago.

“Ever since I was four I have taken part in Little Athletics,” Brooke said.

“However, I only started getting into competitive running a few years ago when Dad and I began going for runs after school.

“Ever since I have really been working hard at getting better and it has helped me to achieve some great results.”

Brooke doesn’t limit her talents to just athletics. She has achieved representative honours in cross-country, swimming, orienteering, netball and even triathlon.

“I just love sport and being active,” she said.

In the past 12 months Brooke has been crowned Glenwood High School’s 14-years athletics age champion and Macquarie Zone age champion. She also claimed silver medal placings at the Sydney West championships and the NSW CHS Championships.

Despite qualifying for the state athletic titles for four years straight, Brooke said she still got nervous ahead of a big race.

“No matter how much training I do or how well I am running I always get a bit anxious before my events,” she said.

“I just try to concentrate on the task and do my best.”

She is also a distinguished dancer, and has excelled for nine years.

Brooke has been nominated for a Junior Sports Star Award. The awards are sponsored by Rebel. Seven News is our media partner. Nominations close on Friday, October 23.
