ST GEORGE’S WINNING WAYS CONTINUE

St George has continued their winning form into the Christmas break despite a first ball hiccup.

Off the opening delivery of the day’s play St George opening bat Thomas Forrester – fresh off scores of 89 and 49 – had his off stump bent back from a class delivery from Fairfield-Liverpool paceman Jaiveer Singh Dhanoa.

In the seventh over Dhanoa bowled out no. 3 batter Ethan Anderson to put the visiting St George under pressure at the crease for the first time all tournament.

A partnership between opening bat Harry Scowen (60) and Tomas Phelps (29) saw the innings get back on track until three wickets fell in back-to-back overs.

The Konstas brothers, captain Sam and Johnny, joined forces at the crease enjoyed a 68 run partnership before Johnny Konstas was given out LBW in the 46th over.

Captain Sam Konstas (87*) blasted 37 runs from his last 19 balls for St George to reach 7/219.

With the ball in hand St George opening quicks took control with early wickets having the Lions at 2/6.

A handy contribution by Shiven Thakker (49 from 102 balls) proved not to be enough with Fairfield-Liverpool all out for 176.

SID’S CAPTAIN KNOCK INSPIRES WIN

In a critical match to keep Gordon’s final hopes alive, captain Sid Singh produced matchwinning innings to guide his side to victory.

Arriving at the crease in the first over following an early wicket, Singh and opening bat Beau Mainey combined for a stellar second-wicket partnership of 146 runs.

With Mainey (64) falling victim to a run out in the 28th over which was followed by a quick wicket to Penrith bowler Fletcher Hyde, Singh held the innings together until the 49th owner with a classy 135 from 138 balls, seeing Gordon reach 6/269.

Gordon’s opening bowlers Nick Stanwell (2/32) and Ben Hocking (2/21) took care of the Penrith top order, before three run outs in the middle overs put the run chase in jeopardy.

The imposing total proved to be too much for the boys from western Sydney, all out for 99.

HAWKS WIN BACK-TO-BACK

A classy bowling performance by the Hawks has restricted the Eastern Suburbs to 127, with wicketkeeper Tom Marchant the sole batter to reach double figures.

A determined knock by Marchant (63), coming in at second drop, saw him score almost half of the team’s tally as Hawkesbury bowlers ran riot, led by Aarush Soni (3/30) and Tanav Singh (2/9).

Eastern Suburbs captain Oliver Patterson looked to inspire from the first ball, trapping opening batter Max Ingram LBW.

Despite the early setback, the Hawks had little trouble chasing down the total with Jack Izzard leading the way with an unbeaten 60.

MANLY-WARRINGAH STAY UNBEATEN WITH CLASSY CHASE

Manly-Warringah 3/202 (46.4) def UNSW 8/201 (50)

Manly-Warringah have remained undefeated in the 2021/22 AW Green Shield with a classy run chase again UNSW.

UNSW posted a respectable first innings total of 201 with a number of key contributions from Hayden McCarthy (29), Nicholas Allen (45), Nirav Prasan (44) and Max Nathan (30).

From the bowling side Josh Lawson was the pick of the bowlers with 3/23 from his 10 overs with support from opening bowler and one of the competition’s top wickettakers Nathan Pryke.

Manly-Warringah began the chase with an 84-run first wicket partnership between Jack Donnan (32) and Bailey Foster (66), and kept the momentum going the entire chase.

An unbeaten 56 to Jake Hutchings saw the home team chase down the total with 20 balls spare.

MOSMAN KEEPS FINALS HOPES ALIVE WITH BOWLING CLINIC

Mosman 0/93 (17.3) def Bankstown 91 (23.2)

An imposing bowling performance by Mosman, led by one of the competition’s leading wickettaker William Nutt (3/22) and fellow quick Jonty Snyman (4/24) saw Bankstown all out for a 91 runs.

The chase was complete without the loss of a wicket inside 18 overs with opening pair Axel Bailey (25*) and Kel Wilson (63*) showing their class.

Mosman coach Ash Doolan said after losing two nailbiters in the opening rounds of the AW Green Shield, it was extremely pleasing for the squad to walk away from Allan Border Oval with the win.

“We have clicked into gear in the last two rounds and have been pretty clinical with the chases,” he said.

Doolan said with the ball in hand the bowling unit honed in on the off stump and were rewarded for their efforts with the victory keeping the team’s chances of making the finals next month alive.

“With a couple more wins, you never know. We could sneak in,” Doolan said.

PARRAMATTA RETURN TO WINNER’S CIRCLE AFTER BIG CHASE

Parramatta 4/253 (48.1) def Campbelltown-Camden 8/252 (50)

The Campbelltown-Camden top-order put on a show with a classy batting display which saw the team falling two big partnerships setting up the foundation for a competitive score.

Opening pair Andrew Salian (36) and Bailey Abela took control of the match with an 87 run partnership before Riley Kingsell joined the action following Salian’s dismissal.

Kingsell blasted four sixes on his way to 71 off 63 balls before losing his wicket in the 42nd over looking for boundaries.

Abela was out not much later for 83, with the Ghosts finishing on 8/252 for their 50 overs. The pick of Parramatta’s bowlers was Lucas Sassen (4/54) which included the wicket of Kingsell.

The Ghosts opening quick Tim Saunders celebrated two early wickets to have Parramatta at 2/18, however a 95-run partnership between Joel Wright and Sai Vemulapalli got the innings back on track.

The wicket of Vemulapalli for 45 gave the Ghosts an opening but contributions from Liam Roche (37 from 39 balls) and Blake Noorbergen (52* from 33 balls), alongside an unbeaten 85 from Wright, saw Parramatta return to the winner’s circle with 11 balls to spare.

NORTHERN DISTRICT WIN TOP OF THE TABLE BATTLE

Sydney 91 (31) def by Northern District 8/139 (40)

The battle between the two table-toppers has seen Northern District emerge as a genuine title favourite in a match dominated by the ball.

Sydney won the toss and elected to bowl first with the decision paying early dividends Addison Sherriff celebrating a wicket in the fourth over.

Northern District appeared to be building a strong foundation until Archie Gowthorp struck, taking 3/3 from 15 balls during the middle stages of the innings.

In the shortened 40-over match, Northern District reached a competitive 8/139.

With Jaden Sequeira – the competition’s leading wickettaker with 10 to his name – the chase proved to be too much of challenge for Sydney who were all out for 91.

Sequeira had best figures of 3/24, with notable contributions from Sam Weir (2/3 from six overs) and John James (2/16 off six overs).

YOUNG LEGGIE TEARS APART WESTERNERS

Sydney University 5/146 (42.4) def Western Suburbs 145 (43.1)

A young leg spinner has played a leading role in Sydney University’s first win of the AW Green Shield campaign, dismantling Western Suburbs to walk away from University Oval with figures of 6/20.

Rehaan Shyamsundar was introduced to the attack in the 26th over with Western Suburbs travelling at a handy 2/89.

With the help of Chris Roussos behind the stumps, Shyamsundar had set batters Damien Guild (36) and Thomas Thorpe (13) out stumped in his first two overs before dismissing the new batter, leaving him on figures of 3/2.

From there, Shyamsundar took control with another spree of wickets in the 40th and 42nd over, including a run out, leaving Western Suburbs to be all out for 145.

The Students never appeared to be at threat of failing the chase with key contributions from Lukas Boorer (46), Xavier Nath (40) and Roussos (25*) guiding the team home with 7.2 overs spare.

WICKETS TUMBLE AS UTS NORTH SYDNEY CELEBRATE WIN

UTS North Sydney 138 (36.4) def Blacktown Mounties 55 (34.5)

A leg spinner Peter Maccallum has celebrated a five wicket haul as Blacktown Mounties restricted UTS North Sydney to 138 runs.

Following the loss of two early wickets, UTS North Sydney captain Hamish Reynolds (47) was building the foundation for a strong total before MacCullum struck, dismissing the captain and Ben Champion (19) before running through the middle order to finish with figures of 5/31.

At the innings change momentum switched, with UTS North Sydney taking charge in a match dominated by the ball.

With only a single Blacktown Mounties player reaching double figures, being a top score of 13, UTS North Sydney were able to dismiss all ten batters for 55 runs to celebrate a much-needed win.

The pick of the bowlers were Everett Oxenham (2/7 from 5.5 overs), James Edwards (2/6 from five overs) and Kai Brunker (2/9 from six overs).
