Australian track and field championships 2022: NSW athletes to watch, world U20 contenders

The Australian track and field championships begin on March 26 and involve Olympic athletes, local guns and rising stars all out to make a name for themselves and snare sports in various Australian teams.

NSW will field a staggering 1158 athletes from across the state at the championships being played out at Sydney Olympic Park.

And among them as some of the rising stars of the sport out to make a mark at the championships which start on Saturday and run through until April 3.

We take a look at some of the teens to watch out for as they chase selection in various Australian teams - including the one to compete at the world U20 championships.

NSW RISING STARS TO WATCH AT 2022 AUSTRALIAN ATHLETICS MEET

NSW youngsters have had a busy time in recent months with the state championships, state juniors and also NSW Little Athletics meet to contest.

And many have used these events to be in top shape for the Australian titles.

Athlete and young rugby player Connor Bond (UTN) has been turning heads with a recent 10.46 (1.2m/s) as have Sebastian Sultana (CBT) 10.62 and a Joseph Ayoade (CBT) with a PB 10.69.

Endeavour Hugh school student Rashid Kabba is also in flying form and keen to impress in his events after a record run at the NSW Little Athletics meet last weekend.

Werrington’s Amosia Soatini is another record breaker competing after he threw a 18.25 to collect a new state record in the U17 shot put at the Little Athletics championships.

Dubbos Ella Penman has been dropping PB’s and big wins in 800m and 400m races at multiple meets in recent times.

Izobelle Louison-Roe has been winning titles at local meets for weeks and will be competing in the U15 Hugh jump at the Aussies.

Paige Campbell is also in fine form and has already got qualifiers for the world U20 championships over the 100m, 200m and 400m.

Isabella Guthrie is chasing a spot in the 400m hurdles at the world U20 championships while twin sister Jasmin is hoping to achieve the same result in the 400m.

Hunters Hill runner Charlie Jeffreson, who won the 800m title at the NSW Open, is also expected to impress in his events.

A number of other NSW youngsters have either achieved or are close to producing world U20 championships qualifiers including Tom March (800m), Bailey Habler (1500m), Darcy Holmes (high jump), Jason Parmaxidis (shot put), Sidney Burrell (400m), Ivy Boothroyd (800m), Georgia Fichardt (100m hurdles), Alexandra Harrison (high jump) and Delta Amidzovski and Alyssa Lowe (long jump).
