There were head-turners, speedsters, big hits, boilovers and upsets aplenty at the Australian schools rugby championships in Sydney, with the best players revealed at the end of the four-day contest.

Our next gen Super Rugby, Wallabies, Wallaroos and Olympians were given a stage to strut their stuff at the Australian schools championships in western Sydney and produced some scintillating performances.

It also earned the best boys a spot in two teams named at the conclusion of the tournament – the 2023 Australian Schoolboys and Australian Schoolboys Barbarians teams.

These teams will play Tonga in a series to be fought out in September.

The spotlight was thrown on the rising stars of rugby at the annual event this year played at Eric Tweedale stadium and they didn’t disappoint.

From an opening day of upsets to Thursday’s grand finals the teenagers from NSW, Victoria, Queensland, the ACT and Tasmania helped produce one of the most memorable tournaments in recent times.

And in a surprise result it was the U18 NSW Juniors side who took the major honours in the boys 15s competition, beating Queensland II 42-15 in their grand final.

In the girls 18s sevens it was NSW who dominated, downing Queensland to keep their unbeaten run at the event intact.

Their younger counterparts in the U16s also won but in a much closer battle, beating Queensland 24-17 in a match which had the crowd on its feet.
