They’re the next generation of AFL stars are set to showcase their skills as the AFL National Championships U18s boys gets underway in Adelaide this weekend.
Comprising the best talent of non-traditional AFL states and territories, the Allies will have a distinct NSW/ACT flavour this year.
We caught up with NSW/ACT talent manager Darren Denneman to look at the 12 boys who will feature in 2023:
Connor O’Sullivan (Murray Bushrangers/Albury)
AFL Academy member. Key position tall who reads the game well. Can play back or forward. Also a good marking player.
Lachlan Cabor (Swans/Shellharbour)
AFL Academy member. Versatile small who can play in a variety of roles. Powers out of a contest.
Caiden Cleary (Swans/Sydney University)
An AFL Academy member. Inside mid who consistently wins multiple possessions. Has been performing well in the Coates Talent League games thus far.
Harvey Thomas (Giants/Turvey Park)
A small versatile type who uses ball well by both hand and foot. Reads the game well to make good decisions.
Jack Glanvill (Giants/Turvey Park)
Is a highly skilled ball winner who is very creative and consistently brings teammates into the game.
Charlie McCormack (GWS/Coolamon)
A developing tall who plays mainly forward. Has good hands below knees and attacks the ball with intent at marking contests.
Dayne Posthuma (Giants/Queanbeyan)
Is a developing tall defender who uses size to negate opponents in marking contests. Can provide a good intercept marking option.
Phoenix Gothard (Murray Bushrangers/Albury)
A small forward who is super quick and clean with great goal sense.
Indhi Kirk (Swans/UNSW-ES)
The son of Swans great Brett. A hard inside midfielder who uses ball well by both hand and foot. Is also a good mark for his size.
Caleb May (Swans/South West Sydney Blues)
At 205cm is a developing ruckman who gives team first ball use at stoppage. Is developing strong marking habits around the ground.
Max Rider (Swans/UNSW-ES)
An athletic forward who competes well and can create scoring opportunities. Has a good conversion rate when in front of goal.
Tye Gander (Swans/St George Dragons)
A versatile athletic type who can take spectacular marks. Reads the game well and consistently presents when forward.
